I’ve been working on finding the motivation to create during a layoff.
In 2017 I signed up for Lauren Hom’s Passion to Paid course. I was so excited at the time and had so many different ideas oozing out of our video conversations. But at the time I really lacked focus. One day it was lettering, the next it was illustration. Then I wanted a project that could do both.
Recently I took to going back and listening to these conversations, and this time I did it with a notebook in hand. I took notes and wrote out all of the project ideas. This time the one that stood out is the one I am working on. Even more so, since I have a plethora of free time on my hands I have time to research and implement immediately.
The side project I am currently working on is called, “letters of truth”. I love taking parts in devotionals, but there are times where it seems like there is a ton of fluff - things to only make you feel good. I wante to know how to go about creating a devotional that shared what verses really meant - proper context, along with how to apply it today.
I reached out to my pastor and he liked the idea and gave me additional resources to look for commentary on the biblical text. I’ll be keeping a journal about how I am processing things right now since being laid off.
With that, the first illustration for the cover is sketched. I’ll continue to document the process, and journal and blog along the way.
