Mr. P approached me and let me know he was trying to redesign his logo himself but it would take too much time to learn how to do it. So he reached out looking for someone to redesign his logo.
He didn’t have a concept, and he was running on empty.
So, first I start off by talking to my client and seeing what they have in mind - if anything at all. It’s more of an onboarding process and this is done though a consultation call. Since Mr. P already has a logo I wanted to know:
why me? (I need to know if we are a good fit, if our values align).
who designed the previous logo? (is there room to start fresh? Am I working on existing Work?)
why do you need a new logo?
what’s the budget? (I’m a freelance Illustrator, I’ve got bills like everyone else).
Who is the decision Maker? ( Will you be the contact person or is there someone else that needs to review the design?)
Next we started with a Pinterest Inspiration Board. This board can include any colors, texture, patterns - anything that inspires my client. As my client creates a board I create one too, just to see if we pin similar things, colors, text, texture, etc.
Here’s the board I put together based on our consultation call.
We review the inspiration board and narrow down to two or three different styles.
From there I will pick up my pencil and begin sketching out ideas.
Here’s a snapshot from my sketchbook:
Via Zoom I presented the sketches one by one, but this is what my sketchbook looked like. Once the final sketch is chosen, I then go into illustrator and vectorize the design. Vectorizing the design will allow for the image to be printed and stretched at any size.
Mr. P ended up with two versions of his new logo, one that can be used on letterhead and one that’s even more refined and sleek.
Here’s what the brand-board looks like and then what would be printed.
